Jackson County commissioners voted to pass resolutions authorizing the Alabama Department of Revenue to administer and collect local sales and use, lodging and rental taxes and local motor-fuel taxes for the county, effective July 1; the votes followed the county’s termination notice to its previous vendor, Avenue.
County staff said a 90-day notice of termination to Avenue was sent and that the Department of Revenue requires signed resolutions and copies before April 1 in order to begin administration on July 1. The county passed a motion to set aside rules and approved both resolutions by voice vote so the Department of Revenue could receive copies before the deadline.
Chairman Nance made the motions; commissioners seconded and approved the resolutions by voice vote. No public comment or debate on the policy merits of the change was recorded during the meeting.
Ending: The resolutions complete administrative steps needed to transfer local tax-administering authority to the Alabama Department of Revenue with a July 1 start date and align with the county’s contract termination schedule with Avenue.
