Select Board interviews applicants for Housing Authority tenant seat, Conservation Commission and Commission on Disability

The Select Board conducted interviews with applicants for several boards and commissions.

Karen Rojas interviewed for the tenant seat on the Brookline Housing Authority board. Rojas said she has a bachelor's degree in economics, served in a leadership internship with Women Thriving, and has worked with the housing authority backend through that program. Board members asked about attendance at housing authority meetings and asked staff to verify tenant status with the Authority; the board expects to make an appointment at a future meeting.

Priya Gunbier introduced herself as an attorney with the Conservation Law Foundation, director of the Clean Power work, and a former six-year member of the Framingham Conservation Commission. Gunbier said she would initially take a listening role on Brookline’s Conservation Commission, then contribute expertise on climate and energy matters; she cited experience drafting conservation restrictions and municipal conservation work.

Elizabeth Stryer applied for the Commission on Disability. Stryer said she is visually impaired and is active as a pedestrian in Brookline; she described interests in improving accessible routes, curb ramps and preventing sidewalk obstructions such as improperly placed recycling bins or temporary items that block passage. The Select Board liaison to the commission said the commission chair strongly supports the application. All three candidates will be considered at the board's next selection meeting.
