Speakers note borough budget timing and raise concerns about principal newsletter and student deaths

Speakers at a Matawan-Aberdeen Regional School District meeting provided a brief update on a borough budget and told residents how to submit concerns to the district, and several attendees raised concerns about a principal's newsletter that was issued the morning of a recent incident.

A speaker said the borough budget "have moved to, May 5" and added that "their budget she did tell me their budget was approved." The speaker said the borough's budget presentation is available on the borough website.

If you could send an email through that link, we all get it. And that way, we can be sure to keep it up on everybody's radar. And we'll have your information in your name, your phone numbers, your emails."

Several remarks addressed school communication and community grief. During public comment a speaker said, "My son is in sixth grade, when we lost the 2 students. So to me, it's it's really sad that this happened." Another speaker referenced discussions with the police department and the timing of a newsletter distributed by a principal: "So regarding the newsletter that was sent out by the principal, the reason why it came out the morning of this is unfortunate and thankfully, it's okay."
