Commission debates allowing extended‑stay or corporate accommodations near Tech Park after OnLogic request

City planning staff and commissioners debated whether to amend the code to allow extended‑stay hotels or a narrower “corporate accommodations” use near the Tech Park and other commercial areas after a formal request and an Economic Development Committee letter.

Tom Bailey, chair of the Southpointe and Economic Development Committee, told the commission the committee heard from OnLogic and other employers that proximity to short‑term employee housing, daycare and fitness amenities is important to recruitment and operations. “If it were in Tech Park, they’d send people there because it’s very close to where they are,” Bailey said, urging flexible allowances for extended‑stay housing.
