North Greenwood library reopens after renovation; mural and landscaping still pending as seed libraries and partner programs expand

Director Jennifer told the Clearwater Library Advisory Board that renovations at the North Greenwood Library were completed recently. Work included new patron restrooms, flooring and fixtures, a refreshed lobby and updated programming room finishes; the building interior was repainted and furniture upgrades are in progress.

Jennifer said a muralist who had been scheduled to paint the front façade did not follow through and staff are pursuing another artist selection that must go to the city’s art committee for approval. Landscaping remains the last piece of the renovation; Jennifer said she has raised the need with Parks and Rec and that the project has not been forgotten. Board members suggested exploring a small community garden, but Jennifer noted that would require a community partner and formal approvals because of maintenance and plant-selection issues.

Jennifer also described continuing community programs tied to library facilities: Countryside and East libraries maintain seed libraries for patrons to take and plant; the North Greenwood location hosts after-school robotics teams that recently won multiple trophies at a countywide competition. She noted Friends of the Library scholarships for teen volunteers and staff education and said the Clearwater Library Foundation funds programs such as the planned school-supply giveaway funded for the back-to-school season.

No formal vote was taken on the mural selection or landscaping; Jennifer said she will bring updates to the board at the August meeting.
