Julian Oviedovsky, president of the Downtown Business Improvement District, said most board members’ terms end in June and that the board needs to address the fact all terms currently expire simultaneously. He proposed asking the City Council to reappoint the existing directors and to set staggered terms (for example, three two-year terms and three four-year terms) so future turnovers do not remove institutional knowledge.
Board members noted the BID charter has nine seats and that two seats remain open. The board asked city legal staff to determine the correct staggering options and to coordinate the reappointment process with the City Council.
The board made a motion to request reappointment of current directors, with the exact term lengths to be determined in consultation with city legal staff; the motion was seconded and passed by voice vote. Members emphasized the importance of filling vacant seats with engaged individuals who will attend meetings and contribute to downtown strategy.
