City RFP for museum partners opens as hotel construction near Clearwater main library begins; library to close for county graduations

The Clearwater Library Advisory Board heard Feb. 6 that the City’s request for proposals (RFP) inviting museums and cultural partners to share space in the main library will accept applications from May 21 through June 20, with staff review and a recommendation to the city council expected after the application window closes.
Jennifer said the downtown Community Redevelopment Agency is driving the “Reimagine the Main Library” project; staff offered formal facility tours for prospective applicants and scheduled a second tour for May 9. She said an internal staff committee will review proposals and make a recommendation to the city council, which will make the final decision.
Separately, Jennifer told the board she had been advised that construction fencing and staging for a new hotel adjacent to the main library could begin around May 15 and that the project will affect parking and access on Osceola Avenue. She said the city expects construction-related fencing and truck lanes and that parts of the parking lot now owned by the hotel developer may be blocked for staging.
Jennifer also announced that Pinellas County high school graduation events at the BayCare Sound will require the main library to close to the public on several days at the end of May. She listed the specific closures during the graduation period and noted Memorial Day is a city holiday; library closures for the graduations were scheduled for the days the county events take place.
No contract awards or council decisions on the RFP were made at the meeting; Jennifer said she expects to know more about applications by the board’s August meeting.
