Evergreen Park ESD 124 board elects officers, new members sworn in

The Evergreen Park Elementary School District 124 Board of Education appointed Denise Jones president pro tem, administered the oath of office to newly elected members and elected Michael Miller president, Denise Jones vice president and Rachel Merriquinn secretary during an organizational meeting Wednesday evening, April 30.

The board convened at 5:33 p.m.; after a roll call and the pledge of allegiance, members heard that there were no public comments and moved to organizational business. Per legal counsel's guidance, the board appointed board member Denise Jones — the longest-tenured member not subject to the recent election — to serve as president pro tem to administer oaths and oversee officer elections.

Board members collectively recited the oath of office for newly seated members. Following the oath, nominations were opened for board officers. Michael Miller was nominated and, as the only candidate for president, was declared elected by acclamation. Denise Jones was nominated and declared vice president by acclamation. Rachel Merriquinn was nominated and declared secretary by acclamation; the chair directed the secretary to record the result in the minutes.

The elections and oath were formal organizational steps taken at the start of the board's new term; the transcript shows nominations, seconds and the chair's declarations but does not record a separate roll-call vote for the officer elections beyond the acclamations. The meeting adjourned at 5:48 p.m.
