Lycoming County proclaims May 1 Lady Lancer Day after Loyalsock wins PIAA Class 3 title

The Lycoming County Board of Commissioners on May 1 proclaimed the day “Lady Lancer Day,” honoring the Loyalsock High School girls basketball team after the squad won the PIAA Class 3 state championship on March 27, 2025. Commissioners presented the proclamation at the county’s public meeting and invited the team, coaches and school officials to the podium.

The proclamation noted Loyalsock’s state final win, a 55-43 victory over Shady Hill Academy, and said the team finished the season with a 30-2 record and an undefeated Pennsylvania Heartland Athletic Conference Division 3 mark. The commissioners also cited the team’s district title on Feb. 28, 2025, and praised the coaches, players and families for their sustained work and community support.

Coach Curtis Jacobson, Loyalsock girls’ varsity coach, told the commissioners the championship reflected years of commitment and preparation and said, “they weren’t gonna take no for an answer,” describing the team’s toughness and depth. Athletic director Ben Morrison thanked the board and described the accomplishment as a reward for the program’s multi-year effort.

Commissioners Scott L. Metzger, Mark C. Sorkman and Mark Messina joined the recognition. Messina and another commissioner addressed the assembled players and families about the role of high school sports in community life and urged the team to enjoy the moment.

The presentation concluded with the commissioners posing for a group photo with the team and coaches. No formal ordinance or budgetary action accompanied the proclamation; it was a ceremonial recognition by the board.
