Sandusky Bay Pathway work continues; bridge over Pike Creek expected soon

City staff updated the commission on construction activity for the Sandusky Bay Pathway between Hemminger and Cedar Point Drive, where crews are installing drainage, relocating utilities and preparing to build a bridge over Pike Creek.
Staff said AT&T relocations were completed, crews are installing drainage on the peninsula and settling work is nearly complete; once settlement is acceptable, bridge construction over Pike Creek is expected to begin within about a week. Temporary traffic signals and other work along Cleveland Road will continue as crews install storm sewers and utilities.
“The next week or two they’ll be continuing to do that to put in the storm sewers and the other utilities, and then, they’ll continue moving on with the pathway,” a staff member reported. Grading has begun along the former pier track behind nearby businesses and behind Hidden Harbor.
Staff acknowledged the schedule has slipped because utilities required repeated rework but said relocations are complete and progress should accelerate. The pathway surface will be asphalt; staff said they are placing stone base and intend to pave segments of the pathway in stages. Staff also reiterated that golf carts are not allowed on the path; e-bikes may be acceptable at lower speeds but high-speed motorized use is discouraged.
No votes were taken; staff will continue construction and coordinate with utilities and contractors.
