A partnership is launching a pilot program called “Sunset Celebration” that will run Wednesday evenings on the pier during the weekly sailing series, organizers told the commission.
The program will be a casual, roughly one-hour gathering timed to watch the sunset and the sailing races. Organizers said they plan to hire live musicians and performance artists such as magicians or jugglers. The artists were supported by a small grant from the Public Arts and Culture Commission.
“We’re curious to see what that looks like. It’s a brand-new piece of programming,” a commissioner said, adding staff expect the series to run in June through August but had not finalized exact dates.
Organizers said the gatherings will be informal and will not necessarily include food trucks; the emphasis is on short performances and watching the sailboat races. The commission took no formal vote; staff and the Public Arts and Culture Commission will monitor the pilot and report back.
