Green Bay committee approves filling police commander post, arborist reclassification and bus-operator contract

At its April 20, 2025 meeting, the City of Green Bay Personnel Committee approved several routine personnel actions: filling a police commander vacancy resulting from internal transfers, reclassifying one arborist 1 position to arborist 2, and approving the 2025–27 labor agreement with Amalgamated Transit Union Local 857 for bus operators.

Committee members moved and approved the items by voice vote with little discussion. The motion to fill the police commander position passed after a brief exchange; Alder Hinkfuss moved and Alder Grant seconded the action. The committee approved converting an arborist 1 position to arborist 2, with staff explaining that the change aligned the table of organization and would yield a small cost savings because the retiring employee was at a higher step than a new hire. "There’s actually gonna be a cost savings in this change," said a staff member, referencing the staffing step differential.

The committee also approved the two-year labor agreement with the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 857; staff reported the union and management were aligned and that bus operators were satisfied. Each motion carried by voice vote. The meeting then adjourned; the committee noted the next meeting date as May 13, 2025.
