Anderson Renick, Clerk of the Court of Claims, told the Senate committee that the Court of Claims is the state's only trial court with statewide jurisdiction and presented a budget request to cover payroll and technology needs. "For fiscal year 2026, the court is requesting a total appropriation of $5,088,000 which is an increase of 6% from fiscal year 2025. And for fiscal year 2027, a total appropriation of $5,000,321. That's a 5% increase from 2026," Renick said.
Renick said payroll accounts for 84% of the court's budget and described investments in cybersecurity and cloud‑based case management: "To address the threat, the courts focused on preventative measures including education, monitoring, and systems upgrades. The court's case management system has been migrated to cloud based servers which offer the latest in security and data protection."
He also recounted operational items: the court conducts mediations that resolve over 60% of public-records cases, expanded open-data access for case and financial information, and integrated courtroom technology with remote video conferencing and document sharing.
Renick closed by asking the committee to consider the requested appropriation and said the court will continue to seek efficiencies while carrying out its statutory duties. No committee vote on the court's request appears in the transcript.
