Steve Stoler, a staff member, said the city replaces recently poured concrete only when it fails to meet city standards or when crews must open the pavement to complete underground work.
"We don't replace newly installed concrete unless it fails to meet city standards," Stoler said, adding that "these repairs are at the cost of the contractor when the failures occur within the first 2 years." He said much of the city's underground infrastructure was installed decades ago and in some locations — including Parker Road — cast‑iron water mains required replacement before the road could be permanently repaired.
Stoler said the water‑main portion of the Parker Road project is finished and "most of the left lane has new concrete from those repairs." He described how small trench pours, such as a 3‑by‑5‑foot section poured to connect a fire hydrant line, are removed so crews can place a full concrete panel across the lane. "That small concrete section will be removed to accommodate a full panel replacement, eliminating joints where water can damage concrete and providing a smoother, longer lasting roadway," he said.
Stoler framed the work as a way to improve durability and ride quality: "We're improving our roads so the last decades into the future to give you a safer and smoother ride." He closed his remarks with the program sign‑off, "We'll see you soon for another Stoler on the Street."
