JPA approves scoreboard addition; votes to buy new arena network system as installation nears

The West Haymarket Joint Public Agency approved an amendment to the arena scoreboard contract to add an additional center‑hung scores table and voted to purchase and install a complete arena network system, including Wi‑Fi, timed to coincide with scoreboard installation.
Under a motion the JPA approved Amendment No. 1 to the Mitsubishi Electric scoreboard contract to add a scores table for an amount not to exceed $80,181, bringing the scoreboard package total to $3,442,919. Tim Savona of Pinnacle Bank Arena described the difference between the existing banner‑style display and the proposed equipment: “The new one proposed is a full video digital capability,” he said, adding it would support “anything animated, anything video, high def.”
The board also approved a purchase and installation contract with 5 nines for a new Wi‑Fi and network system at Pinnacle Bank Arena with a cost not to exceed $3,721,891. Staff said the procurement covers equipment and installation; a separate maintenance and operations agreement for day‑to‑day management of the system will be presented to the JPA at its August meeting. Staff said buying the equipment outright — instead of a lease — would reduce financing costs; staff estimated this purchase would save interest compared with a lease structure and described the project as a full infrastructure refresh, not just Wi‑Fi.
Board members asked whether the purchase price included ongoing operating fees; staff clarified that the purchase amount before the board covers hardware and installation only, and that an operating/management contract will be brought forward at the next meeting. Staff also said the installation schedule is intended to align with the scoreboard installation so the arena’s downtime can be used for coordinated equipment work. The motions passed on unanimous 3‑0 votes.
