Lompoc Unified details student‑achievement gains, Measure M bond and workforce housing plans

Paul Boomersbuck, speaking for Lompoc Unified School District, outlined the district’s recent student‑achievement gains, bond activity and a multi‑year plan to pursue workforce housing for staff.

Boomersbuck said seven schools increased scores in science, math and English language arts year‑over‑year, six increased in language‑arts proficiency, and chronic absenteeism fell roughly 10 percent. He credited staff and community support for the progress.

The district reported it sold the first series of Measure M general‑obligation bonds (Series A) raising $30 million to begin a long‑term facilities program. Boomersbuck described a five‑year master plan with an estimated $439 million of needs and said Measure M will support roughly $160 million of top‑priority projects such as asbestos abatement, roofing, flooring and intercom replacements. He thanked the bond oversight committee and volunteers who supported the measure.

On workforce housing, Boomersbuck said the district is developing a public‑private strategy to build more than 100 units for employees over the next four to six years. He emphasized that no Measure M funds or district general funds will be used for employee housing; funding will come from public‑private partnerships. The district said the initiative aims to help recruit and retain teachers and support staff who have reported difficulty finding local housing.

Boomersbuck also noted local recognitions for district schools and administrators, and encouraged community referrals to the district cadet and employment programs.
