Residents raise safety, stormwater and affordable-housing concerns over Lake Anna development

Several residents used the public-comment period at the April 28 Louisa County Board of Supervisors meeting to raise concerns about development and local policy near Lake Anna.
Phil Winston, a Mineral District resident, criticized repeated developer requests on the Lake Anna Resort project and questioned whether incremental approvals will continue until the developer achieves a preferred design. Winston said he expects increased traffic on Route 208 if the project proceeds and warned of pedestrian and boater safety risks near the route once residents occupy waterfront units.
Vicky Hart asked why the county has not adopted a stormwater utility fee—common in other Virginia localities—to fund stormwater management and related environmental initiatives. Hart also said she had been told by board members that affordable housing would not be allowed in the Lake Anna area and asked why that area was being set aside from affordable-housing consideration. Finally she asked why a church must now obtain county permission to shelter people during freezing temperatures when the church can otherwise host overnight events without county approval.
The comments were part of the public comment period; the board did not take immediate action on the topics at that meeting.
