Lowndes County commissioners appointed LaWanna Baron and Juliana Powell to seats on the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) board.
Miss Dukes told commissioners that Kelly Saxon’s term expired March 8, 2025, and that Carlton Richard’s term expires May 28, 2025; Mr. Richard is not seeking reappointment. Two local residents, LaWanna Baron and Juliana Powell, expressed interest and were nominated. The commission appointed Baron by acclamation to the seat vacated by Kelly Saxon and appointed Powell by acclamation to succeed Carlton Richard after his term expires on May 28.
Miss Dukes noted that the appointees’ terms will start according to the standard DBHDD appointment schedule tied to the expiration dates of the outgoing members.
