Board approves TechEd equipment upgrades, server replacement and primary school boiler vendor

The Luxemburg-Casco School District Board of Education approved several facilities and technology purchases at its April meeting, including a vendor for the primary school boiler, a storage-area network and server replacement, and accepted fundraising that will support TechEd equipment upgrades.

Board members heard that local businesses had helped raise more than $83,000 toward TechEd equipment; the district also applied for a matching grant (not yet public) that district staff said would likely bring the total to roughly $156,000 for TechEd upgrades. The fundraiser donors were read into the record and the superintendent said the grant paperwork and press releases were being prepared but the grant should remain confidential until official notification.

On capital purchases, the board approved contracting with Connecting Point to replace the district's aging storage-area network and two physical servers (bid approximately $64,000), with an arrangement to pay half this fiscal year and half next year to remain within budget. The motion to award Connecting Point the contract carried by voice vote.

The board also considered primary school boiler bids. The superintendent recommended EC & D (noting they were about $1,000 higher but more familiar with the system). After discussion the board voted to award the primary school boiler work to the recommended vendor.

Administrators also discussed reassigning existing summer maintenance hours for TechEd equipment to ensure maintenance is completed without increasing total hours; no additional hours were requested once historical allocations were reviewed.

All vendor and procurement votes were approved by voice vote with the chair announcing “Motion carried.”
