Mayor Daniel Biss led the swearing-in sequence, followed by Clerk Stephanie Mendoza and council members who each repeated the official oath affirming support for the U.S. Constitution and the Illinois Constitution and pledging to "faithfully discharge" their duties to the best of their abilities. After individual oaths and family photographs, the council collectively recited Evanston's Athenian oath, committing to public duty and to transmit the city "not less, but greater and more beautiful than when it was transmitted to us."
