Mosaic outlines home-based supports and seeks volunteers in Council Bluffs area

"MOSAIC is a faith based organization that serves persons with intellectual disabilities," French told the board, outlining two Western Iowa programs: Mosaic at Home, in which a person served lives with a family home provider, and intermittent (supportive living) services delivered in the person's home. She said most people Mosaic serves receive Medicaid and that the programs aim to improve community inclusion, reduce unnecessary medication use and improve daily functioning.
French described benefits of Mosaic at Home, including that some people see reduced Medicaid costs because closer supervision can eliminate medications prescribed only to attract attention in group homes. She gave examples of clients who maintain community employment and improved outcomes after moving into host homes.
French asked for three types of public support: spreading awareness, volunteering and attending Mosaic's annual fundraising event on Thursday, May 8, at St. John Lutheran Church. "If you are interested in coming, please let me know," she said, offering to leave a save-the-date card with contact information.
