The Monongalia County Commission on April 30 approved proposals from the West Virginia Communities Risk Pool to provide the county’s general liability and workers’ compensation insurance with a July 1, 2025 effective date.
County staff said the net increase was about 4.2–5.5% after credits. The rate change was driven not by higher per-unit rates but by increased exposure: a roughly 7% overall payroll increase and a 13% rise in law-enforcement payroll, more county vehicles (reported as an increase from 106 to 116), and higher property values on the county’s schedule.
Commission staff reiterated satisfaction with the Risk Pool’s coverage and service, and the commission approved the proposals by voice vote after discussion about the exposure-driven premium change.
