Commission approves first reading to remove district-based appointment requirement for Planning Commission

The Monongalia County Commission on April 30 approved the first reading of an amendment to the ordinance creating the Monongalia County Planning Commission that would remove a sentence requiring one planning member be appointed from each planning district.
A commission member moved to approve the reading; the motion was seconded and carried by voice vote. County staff said the only change to Article 5, Section 1 is removal of the sentence “one planning member shall be appointed from each planning district.” Published notices were scheduled and the second reading and public hearing on the ordinance amendment is set for May 14, the commission said.
Staff told commissioners they had a large number of applicants for the Planning Commission and were waiting to see whether the ordinance change would pass before making appointments. No additional action was taken at the meeting beyond approving the first reading.
