Putnam County Commission backs up to $400,000 industrial access road grant for Service Wires expansion

Staff member Larry read the resolution, which says the funds would be pursued through the West Virginia Development Office and the West Virginia Department of Transportation and, if awarded, used to improve and widen Service Road to support an expansion of Service Wires manufacturing and distribution operations in Putnam County.
The resolution states the commission accepts ultimate responsibility for economic development activities in Putnam County and supports the Development Authority’s application. Brian Wood, County Clerk, is listed on the signed resolution dated April 2025. Commissioners voted to pass the resolution after a motion and second; the vote was announced in open session as "aye."
The resolution does not itself commit county matching funds beyond the stated potential state match in the application text. Morgan Tinney of the Putnam County Development Authority was cited as having prepared the application but was not present; Larry read the resolution on her behalf. The commission did not discuss a timeline for potential construction or specific hiring counts beyond the resolution text stating the project would support hiring more staff and increase production and availability of U.S.-manufactured cabling products.
The commission will forward the signed resolution with the Development Authority’s application to the West Virginia Development Office and the West Virginia Department of Transportation for consideration.
