District highlights school counseling program aligned to ASCA model; counselors recognized

District student support staff presented a formal update on the Hueneme Elementary School District’s comprehensive school counseling program and recognized counselors from across campuses.
Presenters said the counseling program uses a multi‑tier, multidomain system of support aligned with the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) national model. The district described tier‑1 universal lessons, family engagement, tier‑2 targeted supports such as small counseling groups and check‑in systems, and tier‑3 individualized counseling, crisis intervention, IEP/504 collaboration and community referrals.
Staff told the board that counselors completed a three‑year professional learning series and that some counseling programs are working toward Recognized ASCA Model (RAM) status. The presentation also described a district counseling cycle that schedules outcome goals, data reviews and advisory meetings each month to ensure program accountability. The presenters emphasized counselors are not therapists and that referrals to outside mental‑health agencies are used when clinical services are needed.
The governing board recognized individual counselors and asked them to come forward for certificates and a group photograph. Presenters said the counseling work is data driven and intended to deliver the right level of support to the right students at the right time.
