ALRB reports recent settlements and expands outreach to farmworkers

The Agricultural Labor Relations Board reported Thursday that several unfair-labor-practice matters were settled in recent months and that staff continue outreach in rural agricultural communities, the board heard.
Executive Officer Santiago told the board that complaints settled in reverse chronological order include Bediravia Farms (settled April 24), Mars Farms Inc. (notice of settlement April 8) and Fanciful Company Inc. and Diego Brothers Co. of California (notice received March 13). Santiago also reported an administrative order in Wonderful Nurseries LLC (admin order number 202501) dated April 7 denying appeal of an exclusion order, and listed pending matters including CYMA Orchids Corporation (exceptions filed April 29; replies due May 13) and interim appeals in Wonderful Nurseries LLC RM002 relating to attorney–client privilege and work-product claims.
General Counsel Julie Montgomery reported one Region 2 settlement: DeMare Fresh, arising from a majority-support petition filed Oct. 11, 2023, in which the company was accused of failing to provide accurate worker contact information as required by the labor code and of supervisors telling workers they did not need to provide correct contact information. Montgomery said the parties “reached a settlement with the ALRB on March 20 … in which Demarre agreed to the standard noticing remedies and supervisor training.” She said Region 2 staff will conduct worker notices and outreach during peak periods so workers understand the outcome and their rights.
Montgomery also described outreach and engagement by ALRB staff across the state: materials and events at a Mexican consulate mobile clinic in Tulare County; a UFW Foundation workshop in MECA in Riverside County; office hours in Kern County at Comite Unidad Popular Benito Juarez and in Visalia; regular office hours in Santa Paula (Ventura County); participation in a Farmworker Resource Fair at Winters Community College (Yolo County); and a planned television interview in Coachella Valley to inform workers about rights.
Board members thanked counsel and staff for the settlements and outreach; no formal board action was taken on the reported settlements during the open meeting.
