County planning office launches second round of outreach for St. Mary's comprehensive plan update

Jess Gottlieb, director of Land Use and Growth Management for St. Mary's County, told commissioners April 29 that the county’s comprehensive plan update entered a new public engagement phase starting in May and running through June.
Gottlieb said the second round will rely on short online survey questions published on the project website and on “public intercept” outreach at scheduled community events, including the Southern Maryland Heritage Festival, farmers markets and Flag Day activities. The approach differs from earlier community visioning sessions by going out into routine public gatherings to collect input.
County staff said the surveys will be short enough to complete at outreach tables and that the county remained on track to begin implementation discussions roughly a year after the project kickoff last fall. No formal votes or plan adoption occurred at the April 29 meeting; staff asked the public to watch the county website for survey links and event schedules.
