Covington officials outline aquatics center plans, SR-18 and SR-516 updates and Lake Point road progress

In 2025 city officials said they are moving forward on plans for a new aquatics and recreation center, are monitoring State Route 18 widening for safety and economic reasons, and expect construction on Lake Point Boulevard to finish this fall, allowing site development to begin.

Officials said feasibility for the recreation center is complete and the city is "exploring partnerships and ideas for a whole health community center to make it a reality as well as a path for funding," and that they will continue to "advocate for our Southeast Area Legislative Transportation Coalition and monitor the widening of State Route 18, which is not only essential for the safety of our community's drivers, but for the local economy as well," (Speaker 1, city official).
