Supervisors hear progress on road projects, approve $675,000 transfer to secondary roads

County engineering staff told the Jackson County Board of Supervisors on April 29 that multiple road maintenance and paving projects are active and progressing as weather permits. The board voted to transfer $675,000 from the Rural Services Fund (11000) to the Secondary Roads Fund (20000) to support ongoing work.
Engineering staff said crews are laying the leveling course (the first lift of asphalt) on Z 34 and will follow with additional lifts to complete the pavement. At the Main and Summit Street intersection crews have started pavement removal and excavation and are preparing the rock subbase prior to paving. Staff also reported ongoing crack sealing on several HMA roads, including Z 20 north of Spragueville, Z 34 south of Preston toward the Clinton County line, and D 55 between Zwingle and Lamont.
Supervisors approved Resolution 1114-04-29-2025 for the $675,000 operating transfer, with a voice vote. Board members said the transfer was routine for this time of year and reflects active project work. The board also approved a separate $50,000 transfer from the general fund to the courthouse capital improvement fund (Resolution 1115-04-29-2025) for future courthouse capital expenses.
County staff said the rural services transfer is the second half of the board’s budgeted transfer to secondary roads and that crews are moving forward as long as weather permits. The transfers take effect April 29, 2025.
