The Nantucket Planning and Economic Development Commission on April 28 voted to forward two letters of interest to the Massachusetts Office of Coastal Zone Management for consideration for appointments to the Ocean Advisory Commission, a body established under the Oceans Act.
Leslie Wicksen Snow explained the Ocean Advisory Commission is an 18‑member panel created by the Oceans Act of 2008 that includes legislators, agency heads, representatives of commercial fishing and environmental organizations, offshore renewable energy experts and representatives from regional planning agencies. She said the MPDC (regional planning agency) has a guaranteed seat and may nominate up to three candidates; the governor makes the appointment.
The commission received two letters of interest in its packet: Commissioner Abby DiMolina and Jeff Carlson, the town’s natural resources director. Commissioners voted to forward both letters to CZM for gubernatorial consideration; the application window had been extended to May 2.
