Board requires charter applicants to use district student information system when authorized locally

The Rutherford County Board of Education added a requirement to policy 1.901 that any charter school applying to the district must use the district’s student information system (SIS) if the charter is authorized by the board, and that the SIS use should impose no cost to the district.
A board member asked whether Rutherford Collegiate — a charter approved by the state commission — would be affected; staff responded the requirement does not apply to schools authorized by the state. “No. Correct. They're not our…we're not their authorizers,” said a staff member in response to that question.
Another board member urged that applications failing to meet criteria should be denied automatically rather than being brought to the board for consideration. The board voted to approve the proposed language by voice vote.
