Committee advances ordinance to pay Landmark Commission members $115

Cleveland Heights’ Administrative Services Committee on April 28 advanced legislation to allow members of the Landmark Commission to receive compensation instead of serving without pay.
The committee discussed proposed Ordinance 143.04, which would amend the city code provision that currently says Landmark Commission members “shall serve without compensation.” Under the draft ordinance, commissioners would receive compensation “as set by the city council” and the attached exhibit sets the amount at $115 — the same stipend the city pays other board and commission members.
Committee members said the change was intended to align the Landmark Commission’s treatment with other advisory bodies and to recognize the commission’s responsibilities. The committee chair asked the law department to review the draft legislation; members then asked for a formal motion to move the ordinance forward once the law director signs off.
The committee made and passed that motion; members agreed to send the ordinance to full council with the recommendation that council vote on it after law-department review.
If the law department requests edits, the committee will consider revised text before it goes to the whole council.
