Meet officials move check-in, set pit closure and 6:00 p.m. deadline at Wood County invitational

Meet officials at the Wood County track and field invitational at Lincoln High School told athletes and coaches that the long-jump pit would close at 5:35 p.m., that the check-in table had been moved to the 35-yard line nearest the start-finish line, and that athletes must check in by 6:00 p.m. to compete.

The announcements, made repeatedly over the public-address system by the meet announcer, also said the infield was reserved only for athletes who were warming up or cooling down from an event. "The check-in table has been moved to the 35 yard line nearest the start finish line. That is where you will check-in for the remainder of the evening," the meet announcer said. "You must check-in before 06:00 in order to compete tonight."

Earlier in the meet the announcer told boys long-jump competitors that "the pit will close at 05:35. That is 15 minutes." The reminders were repeated before several running events and relay calls to keep the meet on schedule and to direct athletes to the correct check-in location.

Coaches received a final logistical announcement before teams departed: the announcer asked coaches to stop by the scoring tent to pick up medals. "Coaches, please stop by the scoring tent to pick up your medals before you go," the meet announcer said.

The announcements were operational directions for the evening's competition and not formal decisions by any governing body. They instructed athletes and coaches on where and when to check in, the permitted use of the infield, and where to collect awards at the end of the meet.
