"We're down, about $5,000 and that's hard, to say if it's strictly just the revenue from, the admission," said Josh (finance staff), summarizing available financial data. He also said total activity revenue (gate plus participation) has historically been "just under about a 80,000 a year," and that precise historical comparisons are complicated by pandemic years.
Supporters at the meeting said free student admission lowers a barrier to participation and can bring families to events. One coach said having more kids attend can bring parents as well and called the policy "one less barrier for a kid." Board members noted that concessions are run by student clubs and that those proceeds benefit students.
A motion to continue free admission with an annual review passed on a voice vote. The motion was moved by Luke (board member) and seconded by Joanne (board member); the board recorded a unanimous voice vote in favor and did not call a roll‑call tally.
Board members asked staff to track attendance and concession data to better measure the policy’s financial impact and to report back with year‑to‑year comparisons when available.
