Mayor names Public Safety Administration Buildings and Needs Committee; council approves appointments

Mayor Larry Stoner announced the formation of a special Public Safety Administration Buildings and Needs Committee and submitted the appointments for council approval. The council approved the appointments by roll call on April 28.
In a written announcement read at the meeting, Mayor Larry Stoner said the committee's charge is to study factual data and feasibility studies for buildings occupied by the fire and rescue department, the police department and city administration; to identify options for the volunteer fire and rescue department and for police and city administration operations; to identify costs associated with potential improvements and funding opportunities; and to make a report and recommendation to the council for possible future action. The mayor cited city code sections 30.10 and 30.29 and Robert's Rules of Order as authority for forming the committee.
The appointed members are Fire Chief John Rupke; Assistant Fire Chief Tim Clifton; Police Chief Rob Ross; City Administrator Terry Summers; Community and Economic Development Director Kallie Jo McFarland, who will serve as chair; City Council member Rodney Burris; and City Council member Tom Reed. The mayor specified the committee's term is limited to Aug. 25, 2025, and asked for a report and recommendation on or before that date.
A council member moved to approve the appointments, a second was recorded and the council voted unanimously. No additional scope limitations, interim reporting requirements or funding for the study were specified during the meeting. The committee will study options and funding opportunities and return with a recommendation to the council by the stated deadline.
