Sikich LLP begins field work on Franklin County audit; firm targets July issuance after prior-year delay

Sikich LLP auditors introduced themselves at the Jan. 16 Franklin County Commission meeting and said they have begun field work and expect to be on-site for the next two weeks. Steve Trippi, senior managing partner at Sikich LLP, told the commission the firm is targeting a July issuance for the county's audit, an earlier target than last year's September completion.
"We're looking probably at a July issuance stated for our target now, which will be improvement over last year, which was September," Trippi said. He said auditors began procedures a couple of months earlier with departmental cash work and are now reviewing other records; remaining work includes capital-asset issues that require special treatment. Trippi and a colleague identified as Mike said they would review work back in the office after their on-site period.
Trippi noted the prior-year delay stemmed in part from a transition after a long-serving engagement partner, Tammy Alsop, retired in June; the firm said extensions had been filed and the county had received results for the 2023 audit. No formal action was taken by the commission on the audit report during the meeting; the auditors said they expect to complete the field work and follow up with county staff as needed.
