District recommends sending two school safety officers to FBI active-shooter response training funded by PCCD grant

Missus DeLong, a district staff member working on safety and security, told the Committee of the Whole that the Harrisburg office of the FBI is offering a two-day active-shooter response course at Shippensburg University and asked the district to approve sending two School Security Officers (SSOs) to the training.
DeLong said G-Force is coordinating scheduling and will cover some registration elements; the district would pay the officers’ usual hourly wages while they attend the two-day course. DeLong also said sufficient PCCD grant funding is available to cover the district’s wage costs.
Committee members asked clarifying questions; staff recommended sending the SSOs to the training because it is a recognized first-responder program and would supply county-level active-shooter response training for school officers. The committee recorded the recommendation as informational; no board vote or formal approval was recorded at the meeting.
