Bloomington Township trustees discussed a resolution opposing state-directed consolidation of townships and approved an ordinance to reimplement the township's eviction-relief program for fiscal year 2026.
A township-appointed speaker, David Stanczyk, addressed trustees on behalf of the township supervisor and urged support for Resolution 2025-01, saying the measure opposes consolidation mandated by the Illinois General Assembly without local voter approval. Stanczyk noted Illinois has about 1,400 townships and more than 3,000 special-purpose districts and argued consolidation solely to reduce the number of units of government would be misguided. “What we do not want and what this resolution opposes is the General Assembly and its infinite wisdom mandating consolidation without regard to the wishes of local residents,” Stanczyk said.
Trustees then considered an ordinance to reimplement the township's housing eviction-relief program that had been approved in the FY26 budget. Trustee Hendricks moved approval; Trustee Kearns seconded. The ordinance passed; the clerk recorded no nays announced. Trustee remarks in support emphasized rising rents and the program’s role helping residents on fixed incomes weather housing-cost increases.
Trustees also noted the annual town meeting presentation was submitted for the record and that tax rates had been set and notices would be mailed to residents. The meeting packet will be available for questions by email to staff.
No formal vote tally for Resolution 2025-01 against consolidation is recorded in the transcript excerpt provided; the transcript includes a motion, a second and discussion but does not record an explicit final vote result for that item. The eviction-relief ordinance vote is recorded as passing with no nays announced.
