Summary
The court authorized purchase of a 2024 Ford Ranger 4x4 crew cab for up to $35,764, to be paid from vehicle allotment with lines determined by the county auditor.
Wichita County Commissioners on April 29 approved the purchase of a 2024 Ford Ranger 4x4 crew cab for county maintenance use, authorizing up to $35,764 and directing the county auditor to assign the final line items.
County staff said the vehicle will serve maintenance and housekeeping crews, provide better fuel efficiency and maneuverability downtown than a full-size pickup, and supplement an aging vehicle fleet. Maintenance staff discussed current needs and the challenge of covering county work when multiple crews operate in different locations.
Commissioner Beauchamp moved to approve the Ford dealer bid for the 2024 Ranger; Commissioner Mueller seconded. Commissioners clarified that the purchase is under $50,000 so it does not trigger formal competitive-bid thresholds and that funds will be moved from vehicle allotment (department 409) into department 530 for payment. The motion passed on a voice vote, 5-0.
The county will source the vehicle from a local dealer and the auditor will transfer funds from the vehicle allotment to the maintenance department as recorded in the minutes.
