District curriculum staff described the Nebraska 2024 College and Career Ready (CCR) Science Standards and told the board the district will request formal adoption at next month’s meeting.
Teachers Mrs. Douglas and Mrs. Carson explained the standards are organized by grade for K–8 and by subject area in high school, and that the 2024 revisions emphasize three learning dimensions from the National Research Council: disciplinary core ideas, cross‑cutting concepts, and science and engineering practices. They said most edits are wording adjustments intended to raise thinking and application expectations rather than wholesale content changes.
Staff said summer curriculum work will focus on aligning unit guides to the revised standards during 2025, district pilots for new materials will be considered during the 2025‑26 academic year, and formal material implementation would follow in 2026‑27 if the board adopts the standards. Curriculum staff offered to resend links and background resources to trustees and reiterated that board action will be requested at the May meeting.
