Summary
The council voted unanimously to accept the goals and objectives of the Bullitt County comprehensive plan (02/2025), while noting the plan is a guide and future changes may be needed as annexations or land-use circumstances evolve.
The Shepherdsville City Council unanimously adopted an ordinance accepting the goals and objectives of the Bullitt County comprehensive plan (02/2025) as the city’s guide for long-term planning.
Council member Jennifer Mendez sponsored the ordinance (025007) adopting the goals and objectives prepared by the Bullitt County joint planning commission. The ordinance, read at the meeting, includes severability and repeal/conflict language and a publication requirement. Council members voted yes in a roll-call recorded by the clerk.
Council members said the comprehensive plan updates reflect changes in the county since the previous plan and serve as a starting point for zoning and land-use decisions. The mayor cautioned that the comprehensive plan is not “etched in stone” and that specific changes—such as a recent annexation proposal south of Helen Heights—may require updating the plan in the future. The mayor said the plan helps indicate where residential and industrial development are appropriate and emphasized that the city will use common-sense judgment when applying the plan.
The ordinance was adopted at the meeting; council members and staff said they expect additional refinements to the plan as annexations and local conditions evolve.
