Board members heard a presentation from Carrie Lineman, director of North Platte Public Schools’ Kids Club after‑school and summer program, describing operations, staffing and funding.
Lineman said Kids Club employs about 50 adults and 14 high‑school students as staff and serves roughly 400 elementary students across seven elementary sites during the school year and about 200 in the summer program. She said the program’s model — which uses high‑school students as staff helpers — increases capacity and provides experiential learning for older students.
The program uses multiple funding sources, Lineman said, including a 21st Century Community Learning Centers federal grant and support from Beyond School Bells; the videography work by high‑school students was funded in part through those partnerships and used to promote the program. Lineman said Kids Club is a no‑fee program in the district’s CEP (Community Eligibility Provision) schools but noted some families were asked to buy summer pool passes this year to reduce costs; she said that change saved about $8,000 and drew no complaints.
Lineman also described partnerships with nearly 32 community organizations and examples of programming: therapy dogs, Marathon Kids (a movement/physical‑fitness program), swim lessons, STEM and cooking clubs. She credited the high‑school staff with enabling specialized clubs such as robotics, technology and video production.
Board members asked about federal funding uncertainty; Lineman said some recent funding changes have caused program staff to seek alternative funding streams and that she will participate in a fellowship to work on after‑school funding and legislation in the coming year.
No policy or board action was taken; the board thanked Kids Club staff for the program report.
