City staff reported that Covington’s cleanup programs removed large amounts of litter and debris in 2024, including more than 867 buckets of trash and other items such as furniture, bicycles and tires.
In a presentation to city officials, a staff member said the City Clean team “had tremendous success in 2024,” and described volunteer-driven efforts that supplemented regular cleanups. The Random Acts of Cleanup program, a volunteer initiative launched by the city, drew more than 70 participants who contributed over 260 hours, the staff member said.
The city also reported that its Adopt a Street program was fully claimed last year. City staff said 17 local groups adopted streets across Covington; those groups reported a combined 225 volunteers who contributed 407 hours and collected about 91 bags of trash during organized efforts. In October, the city organized Make a Difference Day, an event that brought volunteers together for neighborhood cleanup work.
Officials said the city has worked with neighborhood homeowners associations, CenturyLink and PSE to respond quickly to graffiti and maintain downtown properties. “All routes in Covington's Adopt a Street program were also fully claimed last year,” the staff member said.
City staff framed the combined efforts as part of an ongoing push to keep public areas clean and inviting for residents, workers and visitors. They thanked volunteers, partner organizations and downtown businesses for their participation.
No motions or formal actions were reported during the presentation; the item was informational.
