Beecher approves multiple public-works contracts: sidewalks, asphalt, sealcoating, mower and MS4 assistance

The Village of Beecher board approved several public-works contracts and purchases during the April 28 meeting as part of its spring maintenance and capital schedule.
Trustees awarded a sidewalk and curb replacement proposal to KRT Concrete for $13,500 after the superintendent received one proposal from four invited firms. The board approved a $3,660 contract to Affordable Canaccrete for targeted sidewalk mud jacking in certain areas.
For roadwork, the board approved a $10,320 contract with McGill Paving for asphalt patches and a $62,955.20 contract with Warkus Paving for asphalt replacement in specified blocks. The board also waived formal bidding and approved an additional Elm Street asphalt work package with Warkus Paving for $25,648.64 to use the same unit prices as the earlier low bid and increase work scope while funds are available.
Park and lot surface work approved included: an $8,341 contract with Workers Paving for seal coating and striping of Fireman's Park parking lot (per the intergovernmental agreement with the park district); an $8,582 contract with Workers Paving for seal coating of additional park areas (picnic grove, bingo stand, beer stand, alleyways and walkway) with the Fourth of July Commission reimbursing the village for half of that cost; and a $3,650 contract for seal coating at the public works parking lot on Cardinal Creek Boulevard.
Public works staff also recommended equipment and program assistance purchases. Trustees approved buying a 2025 John Deere zero-turn mower (model referenced in meeting as a 960) from South Shorewood Home and Auto for $14,323.54; two older units will be sold due to mechanical issues, the committee said. The board also approved a $7,200 proposal from engineering firm Baxter & Woodman for assistance with the 2025 NPDES MS4 program; the amount is included in the FY 2025–26 budget.
Superintendents described the bidding process for each item (number of firms invited and bids received) and said contractors would schedule work to minimize disruptions. All public works items were approved on roll call votes.
