WICKLIFFE, Ohio — The Wickliffe City Council voted April 28 to authorize the law director to review and modify a proposed contract renewal with CT, the city's engineering consultant, and to permit the mayor to sign the contract once the requested changes are made.
The Finance Committee reviewed detailed proposed changes to CT’s retainer, markup and construction-fee schedules. Committee members questioned increases in the retainer fee and in subcontractor handling charges; CT’s representative acknowledged the committee’s concerns and the committee requested two specific contract changes: remove a paragraph regarding a handling/administrative charge for subcontractor expenses and phase the retainer increase over multiple years rather than taking the full increase immediately.
Committee members settled on a proposed ramp for the retainer fee (an intermediate retainer in the committee record before reaching the proposed full retainer) and asked the law director to incorporate the agreed modifications. The committee recommended that, if the city is satisfied with CT’s work, the administration negotiate the phased retainer and keep current projects under the existing contract terms.
Council later moved to authorize the law director to make the requested revisions and to allow the mayor to sign the modified contract when ready. The motion was moved and seconded during the council meeting and approved in a roll-call vote recorded on the meeting record. The action does not itself execute the final contract until the law director completes the revisions and the mayor signs.
