The Young County Commissioners Court proclaimed April 28 through May 4 as National Volunteer Week in Young County and accepted a presentation from Young County AgriLife Extension Service 4-H representatives.
Avon Creel of the Salt Fork 4-H Club and other youth representatives thanked the court and volunteers. Creel quoted several civic leaders in a prepared statement and said, "Thank you," on behalf of volunteers. Another youth participant, Elliot, thanked adult volunteers: "You made my first year in 4-H so fun and so successful," he said.
A presenter for the Extension program said the county’s 4-H and extension volunteers include more than 250 direct and indirect volunteers and roughly 30 direct volunteers within 4-H; they reported an estimated economic impact of $70,724 for the program. The presenter said the program records thousands of volunteer hours annually; participants said the precise hours figure as read at the meeting should be treated as the program’s reported estimate.
The court approved the proclamation by voice vote and invited volunteers and leaders to sign the proclamation and pose for photographs. Presenters introduced two lead volunteers, Gabby Pitcock and Nancy Grill, identified as club managers and project leaders who coordinate club-level activities and volunteer support.
