The Dublin City Schools Board of Education voted 5–0 to approve a drones‑as‑first‑responders agreement with the city, the superintendent said, adding that base stations are already installed on some school buildings.
"For us to have, drone station at Sciota and Bridal Middle School, that is in addition to drones being at 1 of the Washington Township fire departments in the city building," Superintendent Dr. Marshhausen said as she described the partnership. She noted drones can provide "eyes in the air" to first responders and cited potential uses including fire and police response or locating a missing child.
The board approved the recommended agreement on a motion moved by Mr. Ballantine and seconded by Mrs. Messick. The roll call recorded unanimous support: Ballantine, Messick, De Silva, Gillis and Rigby voted yes; the motion passed 5–0.
The superintendent said the drones can reach anywhere in the city limits in approximately 90 seconds, per the presentation materials shared with the board. The district asked for board approval of the agreement to formalize the partnership with the city and fire department.
