Sandusky panel reviews CDBG balance and approves edits to repair summary form

Members of the Sandusky Boards & Commissions reviewed a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding spreadsheet and asked staff to revise the committee's case 'summarization of repairs' cover sheet, removing or renaming several fields for clarity and asking staff to return a revised form at the next meeting.

The spreadsheet shown to the board listed an initial CDBG allocation of $25,000; the packet indicated two awarded projects totaling $6,664 and a remaining balance shown as $18,336. Board members noted the column headings and labels were confusing and asked staff to clarify the numbers for the next packet. Members also asked staff member Debbie to explain program limits and percentage guidelines for awards at the following meeting.

On the summarization form, staff member Steve presented a draft cover sheet adapted from an older template and added board suggestions. The board agreed to remove a 'tax payment plan' field (keeping a 'taxes current' field), to change 'open permits' to 'open permits on the subject property,' and to relabel 'water' to 'utilities.' Members also asked that closed violations be numbered so the board can see at a glance which listed violations have been resolved. Steve was asked to incorporate the edits and circulate a revised copy before the next meeting.

Board members clarified that condemnation for lack of utilities applies only when a property is occupied and poses sanitary concerns; vacant properties with disconnected utilities would not automatically be condemned. The group also discussed retaining case packets between meetings to reduce reprinting and agreed staff may provide digital copies on request.

Staff will return a revised form and a clearer funding breakdown at the board's next meeting for formal approval.
