Officials cited state data while presenting the Child Abuse Prevention Month proclamation: the Arizona Department of Health Services’ annual report from the Arizona Child Fatality Review Team (published November 2024) reported 116 children died of neglect and child abuse in 2023. "We will stand up 116 flags for the victims of child abuse in 2023 in Arizona," a representative of the Exchange Club of Chandler said while inviting the public to the club's Field of Hope installation and dedication at 6 p.m. Sunday, April 13.
A representative of the Domestic Violence Commission thanked the council for recognizing Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Recreation staff invited the public to an Earth Day celebration Saturday, April 19, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Chandler Nature Center at Veterans Oasis Park; Recreational Supervisor Derek Gerson said the event will include crafts, activities and vendors aimed at environmental education. The mayor issued the proclamations during the study session; no council votes or ordinance actions were recorded on these items.
