The Chandler City Council recognized three city employees for milestone service at its April 7 study session, honoring an airport employee for 10 years, a public works staffer for 25 years and a police detective for 30 years.
City officials said the recognitions highlight long-term institutional knowledge and community service. "Her highest achievement in my estimation is that the airport community now considers her family," Airport Manager Ryan Reeves said of Deanna Alonzo Fritz, who the city marked for 10 years of service.
Ryan Reeves, the city manager and department directors presented the awards and described each employee's duties and contributions. The public works and utilities director, John Knutson, called Rosenda Berriesa "an outstanding 25 years of dedicated service" and credited her with helping the LED streetlight conversion and supporting the department through recent retirements. Chandler Police Chief Brian Chapman presented Detective Paul Key with a 30-year service recognition and said Key has worked in patrol, as a school resource officer, in violent-crimes investigations and, since 2013, as the asset forfeiture detective. "He's a great human being. He's always smiling, happy to help people, and he's a wonderful complement to our great team at the Chandler Police Department," Chapman said.
The council did not take any votes on these recognitions; each was presented by staff and accepted by the council during the study session. The city manager summarized the evening's acknowledgements before the meeting moved on to proclamations.
